The Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University was established in the year 1897, September. It was founded as the first Medical Institute to provide higher Medical Education for Women in the whole of Europe. The leading University of Russia, SPBSMU has adapted a unique teaching method with a mingle of the best Russian Educational Traditions and the Western Education Methods. 

Saint Petersburg State Medical University is the only higher medical school in Russia with a polyclinic within the campus boundaries of the University. Consisting of Scientific Laboratory, Clinics, Library, Hostels, etc, the University has 3 buildings. The University has been contributing to the development of Medicine in Russia for years.

With 24 departments, The Saint Petersburg State Medical University is a public and non-profitable higher medical institute. The University has several female scientists in its faculty.
