NEET Basics

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET is an entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the students to get admitted into the courses like MBBS and BDS in India. Conducted annually, NEET is the most valuable exam in India. Lakhs of students appear for NEET in almost 155 centers, every year in the country.

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the other undergraduate entrance exams conducted by institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER for MBBS have been postponed and for now, they consider NEET for the admissions. NTA has scheduled 1st August for the NEET 2021 exam, but as the other board and entrance exams are getting delayed as of the covid-19 pandemic, it is expected that the NEET may also get postponed. 

NTA has announced to declare the actual schedule of NEET-2021 with the application form by the start of July. The exam will be conducted in 11 different languages as followed by previous years. NEET-2021 will be conducted in offline mode.

NEET Eligibility Criteria

Students willing to appear for NEET-2021 must meet the eligibility criteria set by the NTA. Firstly, the students falling under the general category must have cleared their 12th standard with 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Whereas, the students under SC/ST/OBC category must have scored 40% marks in the respective subjects. Secondly, NTA considers the age of the candidates. The one appearing for NEET 2021 must be 17 years old or should be of 17 years by the end of 2021, i.e., 31st December. 25 years is the upper age limit for students under the general category and SC/ST/OBC, its 30 years.

NEET -2021 Application Process 

Step – 1: Fill in the application form available online by clicking on the ‘New Registration’ link on the official website of NTA.

Step – 2: Upload the required scanned documents.

Step – 3: Pay the registration fee which is 1500 INR for a candidate under General Category, General – EWS & OBC students must pay 1400 INR and SC/ST/PWD should pay 800 INR.

Step – 4: Download the application form once it is confirmed and take the printout.

Step – 5: The form will be available for correction on the date released by the NTA. The candidates are supposed to correct the mistakes if necessary within the provided time through their login credentials.

NEET-2021 Syllabus by NTA

The syllabus of NEET usually consists of 3 subjects-Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with topics derived from class 10 to class 12. No modification has been made by the NTA in the NEET 2021 syllabus, it remains the same.

NEET-2021 Exam Day Guidelines

  • The most important thing for the students to carry is an admit card with a photo and a parent/guardian signature on it.
  • The entry to the examination hall begins from 11:30 am and remains open up to 1:30 pm. The exam starts at 2:00 pm with 3 hours duration. 
  • 11 languages have been provided as a medium by NTA for the NEET 2021.
  • The mode of the examination conducted is offline.
  • Students are not allowed in the examination hall with stationery items such as papers, pouches, geometry boxes, pencils, erasers, etc.
  • All electronic devices are banned in the examination hall.
  • Any ornaments, earrings, nose pins, or any other jewelry is prohibited.
  • Students should not carry bags, belts, caps, wallets and other accessories to the exam hall.

NEET-2021 Dress Code by NTA

Dress Code for Males:

  • Mask and gloves are made compulsory due to the covid-19 pandemic.
  • The male students must wear half sleeves t-shirt as full sleeves are not allowed in the examination hall.
  • The male students must carry a light outfit without pockets, big buttons, elaborated embroidery and zips
  • Prefer wearing trousers or simple pants as even kurta pyjamas are prohibited.
  • Students are supposed to wear sandals or chappals, as shoes are strictly prohibited.
  • Regular specs and a transparent water bottle are allowed.
  • Students who wish to carry a traditional dress must have mentioned it already in the application form based on it you will be allowed.

Dress Code for Females:

  • Due to the pandemic, even the female candidates are supposed to wear a mask and gloves.
  • Females must not carry an outfit that has embroidery, flowers, buttons or brooches on them.
  • The light outfit of the female candidate must be of half sleeves.
    • Any ornaments, earrings, nose pins or any other jewelry is prohibited.
  • Females must avoid wearing jeans with fashionable pockets or zips.
  • High heels or shoes are strictly prohibited in the NEET 2021 examination hall.

NEET-2021 Results

As the dates provided by NTA for 2021 NEET is tentative, the exact result date is still not announced. If the NEET 2021 is conducted in the 1st week of September, the result is expected to be out on the 4th week of the same.
